Although there's no confirmation from google yet it should be the Material Design 2.0. The Complete UI of Android is revamped in a new coat of paint. The Settings and the notification Tiles are the most notable areas. The notification tiles when active are blue in color rather than the earlier white on blue color scheme, and also the tiles are now having vertical pages rather than horizontal. The settings also got a renovation. Now different settings have different color rather than the case earlier in Android Oreo. There are also minor changes to the status bar.

In the shots above in the status bar the clock is moved to the left. This looks like the preparation for devices having a notch[Maybe the Pixel 3]

New Notification UI for messages

In the screenshot above you can evidently notice changes in the style of the messages, now stickers and other graphical things are available directly in the panel and also the smart reply functionality.

New Transition animation

There are new animations for various task. At XDA they've Captured the animations in a video. See below:

Media And USB Dialog Changed

The volume panel, Bluetooth menu and the the USB Menu have changed as shown in hte shots above. The bluetooth menu now opens as a pop up window, The USB window now has all the USB functions in a single menu.

Battery Saver Doesn't show Orange bars

Yeah. The Biggest annoyance using battery saver i.e. the Orange Bars are now gone, such a relief in Android P.

Always on Display tweaks

Pixel 2 and 2 Xl were the first phones of google featuring the always on display. Now Google took them one step further. Android Oreo  had time and notification info at the AOD. It also had Current playing music widget in the screen displaying the current playing music. In Android P it also features a widget showing info about the battery charging and health state. There's also a divider 'tween the time and notification. The notifications are also centered.

New Easter Egg and about Phone menu

Well, there’s a new Easter Egg. It’s definitely not the final thing, as the official name for P has not yet been confirmed. Something more interesting is the new behavior for the About Phone page. Information is now shown in a popup window when you tap on certain elements.

Other Changes and Improvements

Screenshot Editor

Google finally implemented the screenshot editor though not awaited comes very handy at times. It provides a direct option to edit the screenshots while taking them.

Screenshot in power menu

Now you neednot to be tired of remembering key combinations for taking shots coz now you can do that from the power menu.

Text Selection Zoom

Now whenever you use the text handler move back and forth in a text it will zoom in for a better movement. Here's a video:

Scheduled Battery Saver

Now You can set any battery percentage for enabling the battery saver mode rather than the 5, 10 and 15 %.

Do not Disturb Simplification

Now this mode doesn't confuses you by providing the three unnecessary option i.e. alarms only, total silence or priority, rather it provides it provides option to configure this mode in settings and provide the 'until' option while turning it on.

Media volume by default

Yeah! Now whenever we press the volume rockers in any condition except for call it will change media volumes rather than call volume. Now no need to do special ways or remap the volume panel for media volumes.

Adaptive Brightness tweak.

Now the Adaptive brightness functionality works better by changing the base brightness. Now no need to manually change brightness everytime to see the screen.

Turn off hotspot automatically if no devices connected

By enabling this feature in the hotspot settings your device will automatically switch off hotspot for saving battery if it finds no devices connected. This comes very handy in saving battery.

Multi-bluetooth support

A new developer option has been added which allows your device to connect to up to 5 Bluetooth Hands-Free or A2DP devices. This does not allow you to stream to multiple devices at the same time, but it will make switching between active Bluetooth connections much more seamless as you won’t have to wait for the disconnection/connection process each time.

Set Wifi Network as metered or unmetered

A Metered connection is one in which you have a limit of data. Such a connection is treated as mobile data connection. Android automatically recognizes whether a connection is from mobile hotspot or not and sets it as metered but if it doesn't now you can manually set it.

Private DNS [DNS over TLS]

If your DNS supports TLS,meaning the servive won't record the domains you visit, then there's a new setting you can change to enable Private DNS.

Accessibility Settings tweaks

  • Vibration controls:
In the Accessibility menu you can set up the vibration settings like whether it should be high or low in call and touch vibration.

  • Disabling Animations:
In the Accessibility Setting there's and option to enable or disable all the animation. It's not that appealing as most of the people know how to do that in the Dev Options but hey, there's a universal button so it might be useful.

Systrace

Though not that useful for common people, for developers it is of great use. No more the need to connect the device to get traces. It allows to collect traces which can be analysed later.

Last shown Notifications

Android has always kept a record of the notifications in the log but it was hidden from users for years. Now it is changed as the users can now access to some of the last notifications. Comes very handy when you accidentally remove any important notification.
